Barley Seed Extract (Hordeum vulgare)

Sensitive skin may get damaged really easy and this can result in dryness and cracking. As we age, it becomes thinner, less elastic and prone to deeper wrinkles and moisture loss. Barley seed extract has proven to stimulate extracellular matrix production and provide pro-aging benefits for sensitive skin, addressing fine lines and wrinkles while revitalizing injured skin.

This includes improvements in collagen, fibroblast proliferation as well as elastin production, and hyaluronic acid synthesis. There is also inhibition of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1), an enzyme involved in the breakdown of collagen in the extracellular matrix of the skin. Factors such as being in the sun (does have its benefits also), aging and inflammation can lead to an overexpression of MMP-1. Through the inhibition of MMP-1 by barley seed extract, skin integrity and structure can be restored to promote a youthful appearance.
